
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reviewed progress across multiple cooperation areas during their meeting in Singapore.
Singapore hosted the 12th Singapore–Malaysia Leaders’ Retreat on 4 December 2025, where Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed the excellent state of bilateral relations. The meeting marked a significant moment in a milestone year, as both countries celebrated the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
During the Retreat, the Leaders underscored the longstanding friendship between Singapore and Malaysia, highlighting robust cooperation in political, economic, social, and cultural domains. They noted the positive momentum generated by regular high-level engagements and renewed their commitment to strengthening collaboration across existing and emerging sectors.

Both Leaders reiterated their shared aspiration to address outstanding bilateral issues through an amicable, constructive, and mutually respectful approach in accordance with international law. They committed to making steady progress on these matters while continuing to explore new areas of shared interest.
The Leaders welcomed strong bilateral economic performance, with trade totalling USD78.7 billion from January to October 2025. They also reviewed developments in the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), noting substantial investment commitments from Singapore-based businesses. Progress in the digital and green economy, cross-border transport connectivity, environmental cooperation, and defence ties was also acknowledged.
Looking ahead, the Leaders expressed support for ongoing initiatives such as the RTS Link, joint efforts on climate and environmental resilience, cross-border energy trading, and cooperation frameworks in health, food security, transnational crime, and cultural exchange. They welcomed upcoming Singapore Consulates in Sabah and Sarawak, which will enhance economic and people-to-people engagement with East Malaysia.
At the conclusion of the Retreat, both Prime Minister Wong and Prime Minister Anwar reaffirmed their commitment to advancing a forward-looking partnership, while maintaining a cohesive and dynamic ASEAN. Singapore congratulated Malaysia on its successful ASEAN Chairmanship and looked forward to the 13th Leaders’ Retreat to be hosted by Malaysia.
