The meeting reflected the importance both sides place on parliamentary diplomacy and institutional dialogue, particularly in advancing mutual understanding and cooperation between legislative bodies. Discussions took place within the broader context of strengthening democratic governance and parliamentary best practices among Commonwealth nations.

The Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) is a high-level parliamentary forum under the Commonwealth of Nations, bringing together Speakers and Presiding Officers from 53 national parliaments of sovereign Commonwealth states, alongside representatives from 14 semi-autonomous parliaments. The forum provides a structured platform for dialogue among parliamentary leaders representing diverse constitutional and legal traditions.

Operating as an independent parliamentary body, CSPOC has no formal affiliation with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association or the Commonwealth Secretariat, although its membership overlaps with other Commonwealth parliamentary institutions. Its proceedings contribute meaningfully to the broader parliamentary ecosystem of the Commonwealth.

The 28th CSPOC was held in New Delhi from 14 to 16 January 2026, bringing together Speakers and Presiding Officers from across the Commonwealth to exchange perspectives on contemporary parliamentary challenges and to reinforce cooperation among legislatures.
