By strengthening the alignment between climate action and clean energy goals, ASEAN is reinforcing regional cooperation to deliver an inclusive and resilient energy transition.

ASEAN continues to advance a collective vision for an affordable, reliable, and low-carbon energy future, anchored in its commitment to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7: Affordable and Clean Energy and SDG 13: Climate Action. As Southeast Asia navigates rising energy demand and increasing climate risks, the integration of energy and climate priorities has become central to the region’s sustainable development agenda.

This commitment was underscored at the 25th ASEAN Energy Business Forum, where ASEAN, through the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), launched the publication Advancing Clean Energy in ASEAN: Leveraging the Interlinkages between SDG7 and SDG13. The report reflects ASEAN’s growing emphasis on policy coherence and regional coordination in addressing interconnected energy and climate challenges.

The publication highlights how climate action can reinforce clean energy outcomes through integrated policy frameworks, mobilisation of climate finance, and strengthened resilience planning. By aligning national energy strategies with climate objectives, ASEAN Member States are better positioned to attract sustainable investment, reduce emissions, and enhance long-term energy security.

Importantly, the report places a strong emphasis on a just and inclusive clean energy transition, recognising the need to ensure that no communities are left behind. It underscores the role of regional cooperation, capacity building, and partnerships with development partners in supporting equitable access to clean energy technologies and infrastructure.

Through its key findings and policy recommendations, the publication serves as a strategic reference for ASEAN Member States, policymakers, and stakeholders. It reinforces ASEAN’s role as a convening platform for dialogue and cooperation, supporting a coordinated transition towards clean energy that advances climate objectives while strengthening regional resilience and sustainable growth.
