A Singapore-led delegation explored new partnerships and innovation opportunities during a successful business mission across Japan.

The Singapore Manufacturing Federation successfully concluded its business mission to Kyoto, Shiga, and Osaka, aimed at strengthening manufacturing ties between Singapore and Japan. The mission focused on advanced manufacturing, precision engineering, sustainability, and research and development (R&D) innovation.

Led by SMF Council Member Marcus Sia, and supported by the federation’s internationalisation team, the delegation engaged with major industry players and innovation hubs. These included Nidec Corporation, Kyocera, Nissha Co., Ltd., and crossEffect Inc, as well as institutions such as the Advanced Chemical Technology Centre in Kyoto and the Kyoto Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

A key highlight of the mission was the engagement with the Shiga Prefectural Government, which facilitated focused one-on-one business matching sessions. These sessions provided Singapore companies with direct access to Japanese firms, helping to build meaningful connections and explore potential partnerships.

The mission also coincided with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan, adding further significance to the visit. Delegates observed the strong integration of Japanese multinational corporations within society, with a clear emphasis on long-term sustainability, precision, and innovation.

Key areas identified for future collaboration included machinery and precision tools, R&D innovation, and sustainable technologies. These sectors offer strong potential for both countries to combine their strengths and drive mutual growth.

The SMF expressed appreciation to participating companies and Japanese hosts for their support and hospitality. The mission marked an important step in deepening bilateral cooperation and building long-term partnerships between Singapore and Japan’s manufacturing sectors.
