At the 64th ASEAN National Tourism Organizations Meeting in Singapore, Vietnam reaffirmed its commitment to regional collaboration, proposing practical measures to strengthen tourism resilience, sustainability, and connectivity across ASEAN.
Vietnam has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing regional tourism cooperation during the 64th ASEAN National Tourism Organizations (NTOs) and Related Meeting held in Singapore on 9 July. Led by Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism Nguyen Thi Hoa Mai, the Vietnamese delegation joined ASEAN members in discussing the implementation of the ASEAN Tourism Sectoral Plan (ATSP) 2026–2030, which aims to build a more resilient, inclusive, digitally enabled, and sustainable tourism sector.
During the meeting, delegates addressed the challenges facing regional tourism, including geopolitical uncertainties, rising aviation and energy costs, and disruptions to international travel. Vietnam reaffirmed its leadership in two priority initiatives under the ATSP framework: promoting ASEAN Quality Tourism branding and showcasing low-carbon and circular economy tourism models, while encouraging other member states to accelerate the implementation of the remaining strategic initiatives.
Highlighting Vietnam’s strong tourism recovery, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa Mai noted that the country welcomed nearly 12.3 million international visitors during the first six months of 2026, representing a 14.9 per cent year-on-year increase. She proposed three key measures to strengthen ASEAN’s tourism resilience: promoting intra-ASEAN travel, enhancing aviation cooperation and regional connectivity, and jointly positioning ASEAN as “a safe, diverse and welcoming destination” to reinforce traveller confidence and boost the region’s global competitiveness.
The meeting also reviewed efforts to strengthen regional tourism cooperation through updated policy frameworks, improved transport connectivity, and closer collaboration with international organisations and private-sector partners. Guided by the READS framework—Resilient tourism, Empowered tourism workforce, Accessible and seamless travel, Digital tourism and market diversification, and Sustainable tourism—the ATSP 2026–2030 is expected to drive ASEAN’s long-term vision of becoming a high-quality and future-ready tourism destination.
