Thailand reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional education cooperation at the 14th ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting (ASED 14) in Singapore, where ministers endorsed the ASEAN Work Plan on Education 2026–2030. Thailand will chair and host the next series of ASEAN education meetings during 2026–2027.
Singapore hosted the 14th ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting (ASED 14) from 21–23 July 2026, bringing together education ministers and senior officials from across the region to strengthen collaboration and shape the future of education in ASEAN. H.E. Waraphannee Damrongmanee, Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore, welcomed Mr. Prasert Jantararuangtong, Thailand’s Minister of Education, who led the Thai delegation to the meeting. The Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore also provided facilitation and logistical support to the delegation throughout the event.
Held every two years, the ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting serves as the principal platform for setting the strategic direction of regional cooperation in education. The meeting enables ASEAN Member States to exchange perspectives, strengthen partnerships, and advance initiatives aimed at improving education systems and fostering inclusive, high-quality learning across the region.
A key outcome of ASED 14 was the endorsement of the ASEAN Work Plan on Education 2026–2030 (AWPE), which will guide regional cooperation over the next five years. The Work Plan focuses on six priority areas: early childhood education, basic education, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), higher education, education policy, governance and quality assurance, and cooperation with ASEAN’s external partners. Member States also agreed to develop implementation plans, performance indicators, and monitoring mechanisms to support the effective delivery of the Work Plan.
Thailand also confirmed that it will assume the chairmanship of the ASEAN education sector and host the next series of ASEAN education meetings during 2026–2027. As Chair, Thailand is expected to lead efforts to advance the implementation of the newly adopted Work Plan while promoting deeper regional cooperation, knowledge-sharing, and innovation in education across ASEAN.
The outcomes of the meeting reflect ASEAN’s continued commitment to building resilient, inclusive, and future-ready education systems that equip learners with the knowledge and skills needed to meet evolving regional and global challenges.
