Members of India’s historic 1983 World Cup-winning team reunited in Singapore from August 7 to 9, 2026, as part of the ’83 Legends Tour organised by Mariners Cricket Club Singapore. The gathering brought together members of the team that defeated the West Indies at Lord’s on June 25, 1983, marking their first reunion in Asia outside India.
Former captain Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath and other members of the legendary squad took part in the three-day programme, which included engagements with Singapore’s cricket community. The tour provided an opportunity for the former teammates to reconnect and share memories of their historic World Cup campaign.
One of the key engagements was an exclusive luncheon hosted by Mariners Cricket Club on August 7 at Bombay Brasserie, 26 Beach Road, South Beach Avenue, Singapore. Held at noon under a smart-casual dress code, the luncheon brought together invited guests and the former players in an informal setting for conversations and reflections on their cricket careers.
Connected to India was present at the luncheon, which offered an opportunity to meet the former players and hear stories from the 1983 campaign. The gathering also reflected the continuing connection between India and Singapore through cricket and the role of sporting communities in bringing people together.
