Pakistan’s 80th Independence Day was commemorated at Pakistan House in Singapore with a flag-hoisting ceremony attended by the Pakistani community, officials of the High Commission of Pakistan and their families. High Commissioner Rabia Shafiq reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace, stability, unity and national progress.
Pakistan marked its 80th Independence Day with a flag-hoisting ceremony at Pakistan House, Singapore, bringing together members of the Pakistani community, officials of the High Commission of Pakistan and their families. The ceremony reflected the spirit of national unity and renewed commitment to the ideals upon which Pakistan was founded.
The proceedings began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by High Commissioner of Pakistan to Singapore H.E. Rabia Shafiq hoisting the national flag to the tune of the National Anthem. Messages from the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were also read out, highlighting the significance of the occasion and the country’s continued journey of national development.
In her remarks, High Commissioner H.E. Rabia Shafiq paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and his visionary leadership in guiding the struggle that culminated in the creation of Pakistan. She noted that the Government of Pakistan is observing the 150th Birth Anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in 2026 through a series of commemorative activities, honouring his enduring legacy and contribution to the nation.
The High Commissioner also highlighted the resilience of the Pakistani people and Pakistan’s continued role in advocating and facilitating peace in the region and beyond. She congratulated the nation on the landmark Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, describing it as a reaffirmation of Pakistan’s resolve to strengthen cooperation in addressing evolving regional peace and security challenges. She further reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peace, stability and cooperation at regional and global levels.
The occasion also recognised the important contribution of overseas Pakistanis, with the High Commissioner commending the community for promoting Pakistan’s culture and positive image abroad and supporting the national economy through remittances. The ceremony concluded with prayers for global peace and for the security, stability and economic prosperity of Pakistan, in accordance with the vision and ideals of the country’s founding fathers.
