
The Philippines has welcomed Venezuela’s renewed interest in strengthening engagement with ASEAN, opening opportunities for closer cooperation in trade, energy and high-level diplomatic exchanges.
The Philippines has reaffirmed its openness to strengthening dialogue and practical cooperation with Venezuela following a courtesy call by H.E. Jessica María López Piña, Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, on H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig, Philippine Ambassador to Singapore, at the Philippine Embassy in Singapore on 14 August 2026.
During the meeting, Ambassador H.E. Macaraig and Ambassador H.E. López Piña exchanged views on the historical and cultural links between the Philippines and Venezuela. They highlighted the countries’ shared connections with Latin America and the historic Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade, which serves as an important link between the Philippines and the wider Hispanic world.

The discussions also explored opportunities for the Philippines and Venezuela to strengthen bilateral and regional cooperation, particularly in trade and energy. Venezuela’s renewed interest in engaging with ASEAN presents opportunities for the Philippines to contribute to broader regional dialogue while exploring areas of mutual economic interest.
Ambassador H.E. López Piña expressed Venezuela’s interest in deepening cooperation with ASEAN and pursuing high-level exchanges with the Philippines. In response, Ambassador H.E. Macaraig welcomed Venezuela’s renewed engagement with Southeast Asia and conveyed the Philippines’ readiness to maintain sustained dialogue and pursue practical areas of cooperation.
The meeting also underscored the cultural connections between Filipinos and Venezuelans, with both Ambassadors sharing an appreciation for beauty pageants and their role in fostering cultural exchange and people-to-people ties. The Philippines and Venezuela established diplomatic relations on 27 August 1968, and their latest diplomatic engagement reflects the Philippines’ continued efforts to strengthen bilateral relations while supporting wider regional cooperation.
