TUT delegation will explore partnerships in future skills, technology, research and innovation.
Mr. Tseliso Mohlomi, Senior Director of the Institute for the Future of Work (IFOW) at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), will lead the university’s engagements during South Africa Focus Week in Singapore 2026. The visit will provide an opportunity for TUT to engage universities, industry leaders and public institutions on applied research, workforce development, technology innovation and future-of-work initiatives.
Mr. Mohlomi has more than 20 years of senior management experience spanning the NGO, corporate and public sectors. Before joining TUT, he served as Director for Strategic Partnerships, Special Projects and International Relations at the Gauteng Department of Economic Development, where his responsibilities included developing government and corporate partnerships, supporting market access initiatives for SMMEs and facilitating international cooperation and foreign direct investment.
At TUT, Mr. Mohlomi leads IFOW, which was established in 2021 to bridge the gap between academia and industry through strategic partnerships, applied research and skills development. TUT has more than 60,000 students and offers more than 400 career options through seven faculties.
During South Africa Focus Week in Singapore 2026, TUT will highlight future-ready education, artificial intelligence and digital transformation, advanced manufacturing, entrepreneurship and skills development. The delegation will explore opportunities for collaboration in applied research, technology commercialisation, work-integrated learning and industry partnerships.
IFOW’s strategic areas include skills development, high-impact research, thought leadership and technology innovation. Its technology hub focuses on the Internet of Things and sensor technologies, cybersecurity and cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning and mixed reality, blockchain and fintech, and automation.
The Institute has established 29 formal partnership agreements supporting research, innovation and workforce development. Its activities include industry engagement with Take Note on cybersecurity, IoT and AI, a Job-Seekers Empowerment Workshop with Momentum Health, and the annual Future of Work Dialogue.
The 2026 Future of Work Dialogue, scheduled for 30 September to 1 October 2026, is centred on “Turning the Developmental Tide: Advancing Africa’s Resilient Future Through AI-Enabled Innovation Pathways”. The programme provides a platform for stakeholders from industry, academia, government and other sectors to discuss emerging issues affecting the future of work.
IFOW is based at Ditsela Place in Hatfield, where its proximity to industry and business stakeholders supports engagement between TUT, government, researchers and the private sector. During the Singapore visit, TUT will also explore Africa-Asia collaboration involving universities, governments and industry, with a focus on innovation, human capital development and inclusive economic participation.
The engagement reflects TUT’s vision of becoming a globally engaged university of technology that bridges knowledge with impact. Through its participation in South Africa Focus Week in Singapore 2026, the university will present its work in education, research, technology and workforce development while exploring partnerships related to the evolving world of work.
