H.E. Srettha Thavisin’s official visit to Singapore, underscores the commitment to enhance cooperation in various sectors
H.E. Srettha Thavisin, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, embarked on an official visit to Singapore on 12th October 2023, following an invitation from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The visit began with a ceremonial welcome at the Istana in the morning, showcasing the warmth and cordiality between the two leaders.
President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Srettha engaged in fruitful discussions, emphasizing the robust relations between Singapore and Thailand. Both leaders recognized the potential for further collaboration, particularly in the realms of renewable energy, the digital economy, fintech, and the fight against cybercrimes. President Tharman reiterated Singapore’s commitment to a partnership that brings mutual benefits to both nations.
During their meeting, Prime Minister Lee and Prime Minister Srettha reaffirmed the comprehensive and enduring partnership between Singapore and Thailand. The leaders explored avenues to deepen cooperation, with special attention given to the digital economy and renewable energy sectors. Prime Minister Lee expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Srettha for Thailand’s unwavering support of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF)’s training initiatives in Thailand.
The discussions also extended to the global and regional landscape. Both leaders concurred on the necessity for tight collaboration within ASEAN, with a special focus on initiatives like the Laos-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP). This ambitious project is set to be a trailblazer towards establishing an ASEAN power grid, symbolizing a significant step towards regional energy integration.
