Dr. Mohamad Maliki Osman, Second Minister for Education and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, delivered a speech in Parliament addressing the Israel-Hamas conflict and Singapore’s stance on the matter.

In a parliamentary session on November 6, 2023, Dr. Mohamad Maliki Osman, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Education, and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, expressed Singapore’s concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza resulting from the Israel-Hamas conflict. The Minister conveyed sympathy for the loss of lives and emphasized the government’s understanding of the sentiments expressed by the Muslim community and other Singaporeans.

While acknowledging the historical context of the conflict, Dr. Maliki Osman condemned the terrorist attacks perpetrated by Hamas on October 7, emphasizing that such acts cannot be justified. Addressing Singapore’s relations with the Palestinian Authority, Dr. Maliki Osman assured that they remain strong, with a commitment to capacity-building efforts. He affirmed Singapore’s stance on a negotiated two-state solution as the path to lasting peace between Israel and Palestine.

In his speech, the Minister outlined efforts to strengthen religious harmony in Singapore, including platforms for community leaders to engage and initiatives promoting inter-faith dialogue.
