Singapore Tourism Board and IMDA collaborate on a comprehensive digital plan to enhance attractions industry capabilities

Singapore, 7 November 2023 – In a bid to fortify the attractions industry and stimulate economic growth, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) have introduced the inaugural Industry Digital Plan (IDP) for the Tourism (Attractions) sector. This initiative comes on the heels of a positive global tourism outlook and a robust rebound in international visitor arrivals to Singapore.

The Tourism (Attractions) IDP serves as a roadmap for local attractions, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs), providing practical guidance on adopting digital solutions across key job functions: customer service and engagement, sales and marketing, and sustainability. By tailoring solutions to specific challenges and needs, attractions can enhance their operations and improve visitor experiences.

This plan is a part of a broader effort by IMDA to support digitalization across various industries. To date, over 90,000 businesses have benefited from the SMEs Go Digital program through more than 20 Industry Digital Plans.

Attractions can leverage digital tools to address challenges such as customer query management, energy consumption tracking, and carbon emissions tabulation. These tools, equipped with data protection features, empower attractions to gain valuable insights for refining their sales and marketing strategies.

One prime example is iFly Singapore, an Adventure and Rides attraction, which has successfully implemented self-service ticketing kiosks with facial recognition technology. This automation has not only streamlined guest check-in but also optimized photo and video purchase processes. By harnessing data analytic tools, iFly Singapore has improved customer targeting and increased average customer spend by 25%.

Similarly, Kiztopia, an Entertainment and Lifestyle attraction, has embraced a Customer Relationship Management system to capture valuable customer information. This data-driven approach has resulted in 20-30% time savings per week by enabling targeted sales campaigns and personalized engagement strategies.

The IDP also integrates cutting-edge technologies like AI, offering attractions opportunities to revolutionize their operations. Personalized interactions, efficient chatbots, and data-driven insights are just some of the advantages attractions can gain by incorporating AI into their business solutions.

To further support attractions in their digital journey, STB has launched the Attractions Technology Roadmap, providing in-depth insights into adopting technology solutions outlined in the IDP. Additionally, IMDA’s CTO-as-a-Service platform offers digital health checks, grant-supported solutions, and access to digital consultants for customized advice.

STB’s collaboration with IMDA’s Open Innovation Platform (OIP) brings the Tcube Tech Directory to the Discovery Engine, offering tourism companies a wide range of innovative tech vendors and solutions. This integration simplifies the vendor search process for all players in the tourism industry.
