Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat acknowledges the impactful contributions of the Hope Initiative Alliance in fostering social cohesion and supporting vulnerable communities during their 5th Anniversary Gala Dinner.

Singapore, 7 December 2023 – Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies, Heng Swee Keat, delivered a speech at the Hope Initiative Alliance 5th Anniversary Gala Dinner, commending the organization for its significant achievements since its establishment in 2018.

The gala, attended by religious and interfaith community leaders, including Reverend Ezekiel Tan, President of Hope Initiative Alliance, and Mr Noor Mohamed Marican, President of the Inter-Religious Organisation, celebrated the organization’s role as a catalyst for positive impact. DPM Heng Swee Keat highlighted the Alliance’s efforts in bringing people from different faiths together to support vulnerable groups, especially during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

During his speech, DPM Heng Swee Keat emphasized the critical role of social cohesion in Singapore’s success, citing the nation’s stability and economic development as outcomes of strong unity. He mentioned the Forward Singapore report by DPM Lawrence Wong, outlining seven shifts towards a more vibrant, inclusive, fair, thriving, resilient, and united Singapore.

The Deputy Prime Minister underlined three essential approaches to building a cohesive society: fostering inter-faith understanding, creating an inclusive environment for all, and nurturing socially-engaged youth leaders. He praised the Hope Initiative Alliance for its commitment to inter-faith charity and its role in supporting vulnerable individuals and families.

DPM Heng Swee Keat also encouraged the Alliance to explore partnerships with schools to engage students in volunteering and civic responsibility. He recognized the newly appointed Sowing Care Together Young Leaders Council, a dynamic group of young inter-faith champions and volunteers aged 16 to 40.

In conclusion, DPM Heng Swee Keat expressed his confidence in the Hope Initiative Alliance’s ability to build collaborations, strengthen social outcomes, and contribute to a more cohesive and harmonious future for Singapore. The Alliance was honored with “Together in Improving Lives” awards, acknowledging their impactful partnerships and positive contributions to society.
