Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and National Development, Sim Ann, had a productive visit to Hunan Province, People’s Republic of China, from 7 to 9 January 2024, strengthening ties and exploring collaboration opportunities

SENIOR Minister of State (SMS) for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Development, Sim Ann, concluded a three-day visit to Hunan Province, China, on 9 January 2024. The visit aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and exploring potential areas of collaboration between Singapore and Hunan.

Accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Enterprise Singapore, SMS engaged in diplomatic discussions during the visit. SMS held meetings with Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Hunan Provincial Committee Shen Xiaoming and had a productive session with Standing Committee Member of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee Wu Guiying. Both sides emphasized the robust ties between Singapore and Hunan.

The discussions focused on the significant presence of Singaporean companies in Hunan, particularly in logistics, infrastructure development, sustainability, and education. Both parties explored opportunities to deepen cooperation, especially in the areas of connectivity, urban development, and the green economy. They also discussed initiatives to facilitate cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

As part of the visit, SMS toured Hunan companies and the China (Hunan) Pilot Free Trade Zone to gain insights into Hunan’s economic priorities and advancements. Additionally, SMS met with representatives of Singaporean companies currently involved in projects and investments in the region.

SMS Sim Ann is expected to return to Singapore later this evening, marking the successful completion of her diplomatic mission to strengthen ties between Singapore and Hunan Province.
