Prime Minister Modi underscores India’s energy achievements and commitment to sustainability at the International Energy Agency’s Ministerial Meeting.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the International Energy Agency’s Ministerial Meeting on February 14, 2024. The meeting, co-chaired by Ireland and France, marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the International Energy Agency. In his address, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of energy security and sustainability for sustained growth. He highlighted India’s remarkable economic growth, transitioning from the 11th largest economy to the 5th largest within a decade, and becoming the world’s fastest-growing major economy. The Prime Minister noted India’s substantial progress in solar energy and renewable energy capacity, exceeding its Paris commitments ahead of schedule. Despite being home to 17% of the global population, India’s carbon emissions account for only 4% of the global total. PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to combatting climate change through initiatives like the International Solar Alliance and Mission LiFE, promoting pro-planet lifestyle choices. He thanked the IEA for supporting initiatives like the Global Biofuels Alliance launched during India’s G20 Presidency. Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s inclusive approach, with 1.4 billion citizens contributing talent, technology, and innovation. He expressed confidence that India’s increased involvement would benefit the IEA. The Prime Minister concluded by extending best wishes for the success of the Ministerial Meeting and urged leveraging the platform to strengthen partnerships and create new ones, aiming for a cleaner, greener, and inclusive world.
