Singapore’s Dr. Maliki Osman reaffirmed strong bilateral relations with Brunei during his annual Hari Raya visit, meeting Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah.

In a series of high-level meetings, Dr. Maliki Osman, Singapore’s Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, and Second Minister for Education and Foreign Affairs, met with Brunei’s top officials to enhance diplomatic and cooperative ties. From April 11 to 15, 2024, Dr. Osman’s visit focused on strengthening the partnership between Singapore and Brunei as the two countries celebrate 40 years of diplomatic relations.

On April 13, 2024, Dr. Osman was received by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam. During the audience, Dr. Osman conveyed Hari Raya greetings from Singapore’s leadership and discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation across various sectors. Both leaders expressed commitment to commemorating the milestone anniversary of their diplomatic relationship with meaningful joint initiatives.

Dr. Osman also met with His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office of Brunei. The discussions highlighted the satisfaction with the robust and substantive ties between the two nations. They reviewed progress on several Memoranda of Understanding signed during the Sultan’s state visit in August 2022, including initiatives like the Brunei Darussalam-Singapore Youth Education Scholarship and Cooperation in Public Service Capacity Development.

This series of meetings underscores the special relationship between Singapore and Brunei, emphasizing their mutual interest in expanding and enhancing bilateral relations.
