Minister for Defence Dr. Ng Eng Hen and US congressional delegation reaffirm strong bilateral defence relationship during their recent meeting.

Minister for Defence Dr. Ng Eng Hen met with a United States congressional delegation led by US House Financial Services Committee Chair Representative Patrick McHenry (R-North Carolina) in Singapore on April 24, 2024. The meeting, characterized by a friendly tea session, included discussions on the robust defence relationship between Singapore and the US.

Participants and Agenda: The delegation comprised Representatives Erin Houchin (R-Indiana), Scott Fitzgerald (R-Wisconsin), Mike Flood (R-Nebraska), Wiley Nickel (D-North Carolina), and Ritchie Torres (D-New York). Dr. Ng expressed gratitude for the US Congress’s unwavering support of the Singapore Armed Forces’ (SAF) overseas training initiatives and technology access in the US. In turn, the US representatives acknowledged Singapore’s significant support for the US’ strategic presence in the region.

Discussion Highlights: The talks focused on global and regional geopolitical developments, particularly in economic and security domains, as well as the US’ foreign policy strategy towards the region. This meeting underscores the importance of continued strategic and defence collaboration between Singapore and the United States.

Broader Engagements: During their visit, which lasts from April 24 to 26, 2024, the US congressional delegation also met with other key Singaporean leaders, including Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong.
