The Ukraine Embassy in Singapore hosted an insightful evening organised by the Singapore Press Club, focusing on Ukraine’s resilience, global support, and the ongoing conflict with Russia.

On July 2, 2024, the Singapore Press Club organised an Embassy Night in collaboration with the Ukraine Embassy in Singapore. The event featured Ukraine’s Ambassador to Singapore, Kateryna Zelenko, who delivered a compelling address to a full house, including members of the press, the diplomatic community, and guests.

Ambassador Zelenko emphasized the resilience of Ukraine amidst ongoing conflicts and highlighted the importance of global support to bring every Ukrainian child home. She expressed gratitude for the thoughtful questions from the audience and commended the moderation by Derek Nigel Wallbank.

During her speech, Ambassador Zelenko underscored the need to address Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began in 2014 with the illegal occupation of Crimea and escalated in 2022. She acknowledged Singapore’s strong stance against the invasion, noting that it was one of the first countries in Southeast Asia to impose sanctions on Russia and has provided significant humanitarian assistance.

Singapore’s continued support, particularly in multilateralism and adherence to international law, was appreciated by Ambassador Zelenko. She praised Singapore for being one of the largest donors to the major Ukrainian Children’s Hospital in Kyiv, which was targeted early in the invasion.

The Ambassador also discussed President Zelensky’s Peace Formula, a ten-element plan to bring an end to the conflict, and called for a global response to support Ukraine. She highlighted the critical role of countries like Singapore in maintaining stability and supporting peace efforts.
