The Egyptian Embassy in Singapore hosted a reception to commemorate Egypt’s 23 July 1952 revolution, highlighting the strong bilateral relations and growing economic cooperation between Egypt and Singapore.
On 23 July 2024, the Egyptian Embassy in Singapore held a reception at Egypt’s House to celebrate Egypt’s 72nd National Day. The event was attended by Desmond Tan, Senior Minister of the Singapore Cabinet, members of Parliament, ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, heads of Singapore Trade, Investment, and Tourism Organizations, and members of the Egyptian community residing in Singapore.
Ambassador Ahmed Mustafa, the Ambassador of Egypt in Singapore, emphasized the robust relations between Egypt and Singapore, dating back to 1965 when Egypt became the first Arab and African country to establish full diplomatic relations with Singapore. He highlighted Egypt’s unprecedented growth, which presents ample investment opportunities for Singapore, noting the significant infrastructure developments and major national projects underway in Egypt.
In his speech, Ambassador Mustafa underscored the historical significance of the 23 July 1952 revolution, marking a new era in Egypt’s long history. He also reiterated Egypt’s pride in being one of the first countries to recognize Singapore’s independence and establish a diplomatic mission in Singapore.
Senior Minister Desmond Tan expressed Singapore’s intent to enhance economic cooperation with Egypt, pointing out the growth of Singaporean investments in Egypt and the potential to boost tourism between the two nations, including the revival of direct flights. He also commended Egypt’s pivotal role in addressing Middle Eastern issues and the cooperation between Egypt and Singapore at international conferences, as well as Egypt’s humanitarian aid to Palestinians.
