Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced the elevation of the Singapore-India Strategic Partnership to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking a new era of collaboration across key sectors.

Singapore, 6 September 2024 – During his official visit to Singapore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, announced the elevation of the Singapore-India Strategic Partnership to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This significant development, highlighted during bilateral talks at the Parliament House, underscores both nations’ commitment to strengthening their cooperation across a range of sectors, from sustainability and advanced manufacturing to digital technologies and connectivity.

Prime Ministers Wong and Modi hailed the progress made in bilateral cooperation, particularly in forward-looking areas like digital innovation, green technologies, and economic linkages. The elevation of the partnership reflects the mutual desire to deepen engagement and broaden the scope of collaboration. The leaders agreed that the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, held recently in August 2024, played a pivotal role in advancing cooperation and will continue to lead efforts in the future.

These agreements further cement the forward-looking and comprehensive nature of the Singapore-India relationship, adding depth to their economic and technological cooperation.

Both Prime Ministers also discussed new areas of collaboration, including cross-border electricity trade, green ammonia supply chains, and cross-border data flows through Gujarat’s International Finance and Tec-City (GIFT City). This strengthened partnership reflects the growing importance of India-Singapore relations and their shared vision for regional and global economic development.
