The Malaysian High Commission in Singapore, led by High Commissioner Dato’ Indera Dr. Azfar bin Mohamad Mustafar, hosted a reception to celebrate Malaysia’s 67th National Day and 61st Malaysia Day at the Grand Hyatt Singapore.
ON 13 September 2024, the “Reception on the Occasion of the 67th National Day & 61st Malaysia Day” was hosted by His Excellency Dato’ Indera Dr. Azfar bin Mohamad Mustafar, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore, and his spouse, Datin Indera Che Norhayati Soib. The event, held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Singapore, brought together members of the Malaysian community, diplomatic representatives, local dignitaries, and various prominent figures to celebrate Malaysia’s national milestones.
Desmond Lee, Singapore’s Minister for National Development and Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration, was the Guest of Honour. In his speech, the High Commissioner emphasized the unique and symbiotic relationship between Malaysia and Singapore, stating, “The relationship between Malaysia and Singapore is not only deep-rooted, comprehensive, and symbiotic, but also special. It is a relationship built on shared history, culture, and values, which continue to shape our close cooperation today.”
The event featured remarks on the strong economic ties between the two nations, with bilateral trade reaching 104 billion Singapore dollars in 2022, making Singapore Malaysia’s second-largest trading partner. The High Commissioner also highlighted future collaboration through the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, aimed at deepening economic integration between the countries.
Among the dignitaries present were Yang Berhormat Mr. Don Wee Boon Hong and Yang Berhormat Mr. Liang Eng Hwa, Members of Parliament in Singapore, and Admiral Aaron Beng, Chief of the Defence Force of Singapore.
The event highlighted the longstanding bond between the two neighboring countries, shaped by decades of collaboration and mutual respect. Guests at the reception enjoyed cultural performances and traditional Malaysian cuisine, celebrating both the nation’s past accomplishments and its promising future alongside Singapore. The occasion reinforced the enduring friendship and shared goals of both nations, aligning with Malaysia’s vision for a just, inclusive, and sustainable society.
