Sri Lanka joined Indonesia and the Philippines as an official tourism partner at the first Asian Village Festival, showcasing its rich culture and tourism opportunities to over 20,000 visitors in Singapore
Singapore, 15 October 2024 – Sri Lanka participated as an official tourism partner at the first-ever Asian Village Festival, held from October 3rd to 6th, 2024, at the Singapore Expo. The event, organised by Shaabaz Pte Ltd, aimed to promote Asian culture, food, and business while creating opportunities for regional collaboration. Alongside Sri Lanka, Indonesia and the Philippines were also featured as key partners, drawing attention to the vibrant cultural diversity of the Asia region.
The festival attracted over 20,000 visitors, with exhibitors and performers from Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines, all showcasing their unique products and talents. Sri Lanka’s participation was marked by the presence of High Commissioner Senarath Dissanayake, who attended as the guest of honour. The opening ceremony featured a ribbon-cutting led by the High Commissioner, along with Abdul Malieq, founder of Shaabaz Pte Ltd, and other distinguished guests. Joining them were Mr. Ahamed Razee, Head of Chancery, and Mr. Yasantha Yaddehi, Minister (Commercial) of the Sri Lankan High Commission.
The High Commission of Sri Lanka set up a dynamic tourism promotional booth that highlighted the country’s cultural heritage and natural resources. Visitors were treated to a captivating performance by traditional Sri Lankan dancers on the opening day, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd. The booth also featured promotional videos on Sri Lanka tourism, screened on the main event stage. Journalists from various media outlets conducted interviews with Minister Yaddehi, further promoting Sri Lanka’s tourism offerings to the Singaporean audience.
Throughout the four-day event, the High Commission’s staff engaged with numerous visitors, including journalists, travellers, tour agents, and students. They distributed information about Sri Lanka’s tourism, sparking interest in the country’s travel potential.
