Philippine Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig, alongside DBM officials, met Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Grace Fu, to discuss sustainability practices and the establishment of a Chief Sustainability Officer role in the Philippines.

On 8 November 2024, the Philippine Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig, participated in a significant benchmarking meeting at the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) in Singapore. The meeting was led by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) officials, including Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman. The discussion focused on the adoption of sustainability practices in the Philippines, particularly in the context of the DBM’s initiative to establish a Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) role within the Philippine government.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged insights on how to develop a CSO model, drawing from Singapore’s experience with a centralized sustainability office. The benchmarking session provided valuable insights for the DBM, which will pilot the CSO role as part of the Philippine government’s efforts to enhance sustainability policies and initiatives. Both sides shared best practices to improve and standardize sustainability approaches, with the goal of ensuring that the Philippines can adopt effective strategies similar to Singapore’s successful model.

The dialogue also reinforced the growing cooperation between Singapore and the Philippines in addressing global sustainability challenges and shaping policy frameworks for the future.
