Ambassador Agustin Garcia-Lopez Loaeza hosted a reception to bid farewell to the outgoing diplomats and welcome new ones.
Singapore, 13 November 2024 – His Excellency Agustin Garcia-Lopez Loaeza, Ambassador of Mexico to Singapore, hosted a seated dinner reception to bid farewell to Ambassador Georgios Dogoritis, the outgoing Ambassador of Greece to Singapore, while also welcoming new diplomats. The event was held in Bakalaki Greek Taverna, celebrated the deep and enduring ties between Greece and Singapore, and honoured Ambassador Dogoritis’s significant contributions to advancing bilateral relations.
In his address, Ambassador Garcia-Lopez eloquently drew parallels between the enduring legacies of Greek culture and the diplomatic journey of Ambassador Dogoritis. Referencing Homer’s Odyssey and James Joyce’s Ulysses, he highlighted how both works encapsulate the themes of identity, perseverance, and the pursuit of meaning—qualities that marked Ambassador Dogoritis’s distinguished career.
Ambassador Garcia-Lopez likened Ambassador Dogoritis’s tenure to an odyssey that has navigated the complexities of international diplomacy. “Just as the sea has long connected Greece and Singapore, your tenure has skillfully navigated the waters of diplomacy and commerce, and has been one of discovery and growth, bridging cultures and creating lasting connections,” he said.
The event also served as a welcome reception for the new Ambassadors of Norway, H.E. Leif Trana, Denmark, H.E. Jakob Brix Tange, the Portuguese Republic, H.E. Carlos Alberto Raheb Lopes Pires, Brazil, H.E. Luciano Mazza de Andrade, High Commissioners of Maldives, H.E. Mohamed Luveiz, Brunei Darussalam, H.E. Hajah Noor Qamar binti Haji Sulaiman, and Papua New Guinea, H.E. Kapi Marowho were introduced to the diplomatic community in Singapore. This dual celebration was a testament to the enduring friendships and professional achievements of the departing diplomats and a warm welcome to the new representatives whose contributions are anticipated to further enrich the diplomatic landscape in Singapore.
