Leaders from Malaysia and Singapore formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in higher education at the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat in Putrajaya.
Putrajaya, 7 January 2025 – In a significant step towards strengthening bilateral ties in the education sector, Malaysia and Singapore have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration in higher education. The MoU was signed by Malaysia’s Minister of Higher Education, His Excellency Dato’ Seri Royal Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, and Singapore’s Minister for Education, Mr. Chan Chun Sing.
The exchange of the MoU was witnessed by YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, and TYT Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister of Singapore, during the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat.
The agreement establishes a Joint Working Group (JWG) to oversee and guide the collaboration between the two countries in key areas, including Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), research initiatives, the integration of new educational technologies, and staff training programmes at accredited higher education institutions.
This partnership is set to foster innovation, improve academic standards, and facilitate knowledge exchange between institutions in both nations. Beyond education, the MoU promises broader economic benefits, supporting regional growth and attracting quality investments.
