Admiral Jirapol Wongwit’s visit to Singapore reaffirms long-standing military relations and enhances maritime security collaboration.

Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy (RTN), Admiral (ADM) Jirapol Wongwit, called on Singapore’s Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen, during his introductory visit to Singapore from 13 to 16 January 2025. The meeting underscored the close and enduring defence relationship between Singapore and Thailand, with both leaders highlighting the importance of deepening bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and RTN.

ADM Jirapol’s visit featured a series of high-level engagements. He met with Chief of Defence Force Vice Admiral Aaron Beng and Chief of Navy Rear Admiral Sean Wat, following his inspection of the Guard of Honour at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). A significant milestone of the visit was the co-signing of a revised Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by ADM Jirapol and Rear Admiral Wat, aimed at enhancing maritime information-sharing between the two navies.

During his tour of the Information Fusion Centre (IFC) at RSS Singapura – Changi Naval Base, ADM Jirapol received a detailed briefing on the centre’s role in bolstering maritime security. The IFC’s operations enable timely responses to regional threats through effective information sharing among navies.

The longstanding partnership between the RSN and RTN is marked by regular interactions, including high-level visits, professional exchanges, joint courses, and bilateral exercises such as the biennial Exercise Singsiam. These initiatives foster mutual understanding and strengthen operational cooperation, reinforcing the robust defence ties between Singapore and Thailand.
