
A 110-member delegation from 71 countries visited the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, led by Minister of State Pabitra Margherita
During their visit, the envoys participated in various cultural and spiritual activities, gaining insight into the significance of the Kumbh Mela, which is renowned as the world’s largest religious gathering. The delegation’s presence highlighted the event’s global appeal and India’s emphasis on cultural diplomacy.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed the diplomats and expressed his delight at their participation. He noted that over 350 million pilgrims had already attended the event, with numbers expected to exceed 450 million by its conclusion on 26 February.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, held every 12 years at the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers, is a significant event in Hinduism, attracting millions of devotees and visitors from around the world. The festival’s origins trace back to ancient Hindu scriptures, and it has been recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The participation of foreign dignitaries underscores the universal appeal of the Kumbh Mela and reflects India’s commitment to fostering international cultural ties. The envoys’ engagement in the festival’s rituals and traditions provided them with a deeper understanding of India’s rich cultural heritage.
