Lebar Air Base, Singapore, 4 February 2025 – The United States Air Force (USAF) and the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) successfully concluded Exercise Commando Sling 25, a three-week bilateral aerial combat training exercise aimed at enhancing interoperability and strengthening defense ties between the two nations.

The exercise featured six USAF F-16C Fighting Falcons from the 36th Fighter Squadron, which arrived at Paya Lebar Air Base on 2 January 2025. These aircraft participated in various air-to-air combat scenarios alongside RSAF F-15SG fighters, providing both forces with valuable experience in dissimilar aircraft training.

Initiated in 1990, Commando Sling is a Pacific Air Forces-sponsored exercise designed to improve alliance capabilities through realistic combat training. Over the years, it has evolved into a key component of the US-Singapore defense partnership, reflecting a shared commitment to regional security and stability.

This year’s iteration also served as a platform to evaluate the “Super Squadron” concept, wherein the 36th Fighter Squadron was augmented with additional aircraft and personnel from other units within the Seventh Air Force. This approach aims to maximize combat effectiveness and readiness in the Indo-Pacific region.

Both air forces expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of Commando Sling 25, noting that the exercise not only enhanced tactical proficiency but also reinforced the longstanding defense relationship between the United States and Singapore.
