
Parliament dissolved following advice from DPM Lawrence Wong; Nomination Day set for 23 April and Polling Day for 3 May
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong advised President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to dissolve Parliament and issue the Writ of Election, setting in motion the process for Singapore’s upcoming General Election. The Writ was issued on Monday, 15 April, with Nomination Day scheduled for Wednesday, 23 April, and Polling Day set for Saturday, 3 May.
The announcement comes at a time of global uncertainty, with shifting geopolitical and economic conditions impacting countries around the world. In a statement, Mr Wong noted that the environment which has supported Singapore’s success over the decades is changing, and the country must be prepared to navigate an increasingly unpredictable landscape.
“This is a critical juncture,” said Mr Wong. “Singaporeans should decide on the team to lead our nation and to chart our way forward together.” His remarks underscore the importance of national unity and decisive leadership as Singapore prepares to face emerging challenges.
