Ambassadors briefed in Mexico City on strategy to boost trade, investment, and global outreach.
MEXICO CITY, Mexico. — Mexico’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economy, together with the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), have launched the internationalisation of “Plan Mexico” — a strategic initiative aimed at diversifying trade and strengthening foreign investment.
The plan was unveiled at a diplomatic event held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 30 April, where Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente, Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard, and CCE President Francisco Cervantes addressed ambassadors and consuls accredited in Mexico, as well as the heads of Mexico’s missions abroad.
Minister de la Fuente underscored the country’s assets, including “the leadership and international prestige of President Claudia Sheinbaum,” and highlighted the critical role of Mexico’s 162 embassies, consulates, and missions in promoting the plan globally. “To achieve this, we will deploy our best diplomatic, consular, and international cooperation capabilities,” he said.
Plan Mexico, a key priority for President Sheinbaum’s development agenda, aims to increase Mexico’s presence in global markets, attract investment, and forge partnerships through diplomatic channels. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to reposition Mexico as a competitive hub amid shifting global production and supply chains.
Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard emphasised that foreign investment would be central to Mexico’s strategy in adapting to global economic changes. “Many production chains will be relocated, and Mexico is ready to participate in that,” he stated. “Some sectors are going to change, and we’re going to compete for that.”
Echoing this sentiment, CCE President Francisco Cervantes assured the private sector’s full support. “We will promote the internationalisation of Plan Mexico as a sign of openness, transparency, and trust in our country,” he said. “This will diversify our trade and strengthen investment in Mexico.”
Also present were Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs María Teresa Mercado and Undersecretary for Latin America Raquel Serur Smeke, who led discussions with the diplomatic corps. Heads of missions from across North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa joined the event virtually.
The launch marks the beginning of a broader effort by the Foreign Ministry to identify and activate strategic international partnerships and investment opportunities aligned with the pillars of Plan Mexico.
