Ministers from Rwanda and Singapore convene on the sidelines of Ecosperity to advance carbon market collaboration under Article 6.
On the margins of Ecosperity Week 2025, Rwanda’s Minister of Environment, Dr. Valentine Uwamariya, and Singapore’s Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Culture, Community and Youth, Mr Alvin Tan, co-opened a high-level roundtable focused on Rwanda’s Article 6 Carbon Markets and the Green Economy.

The roundtable, held earlier today, highlighted the strategic partnership between Rwanda and Singapore in advancing climate action, with particular emphasis on operationalising Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which enables voluntary cooperation between countries to meet emission reduction targets.

Dr. Uwamariya stated that Rwanda’s collaboration with Singapore is both timely and aligned with its national climate ambitions, which include a 38% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The dialogue underscored the importance of market-based mechanisms and international cooperation in financing sustainable development.
The event also facilitated discussions among government officials, climate policy experts, and private sector stakeholders on the enabling conditions for effective carbon trading and low-carbon investments between Africa and Southeast Asia.
