Minister Josephine Teo and Senior Minister of State Tan Kiat How visited Chongqing to mark the start of the celebrations for this milestone.

Singapore and Chongqing have begun a year-long celebration to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity (CCI). The occasion was marked by an official visit from Singapore’s Minister for Digital Development and Information, Josephine Teo, and Senior Minister of State Tan Kiat How, from 2 to 3 June 2025.

The visit underscores the growing bilateral partnership between Singapore and Chongqing, particularly in areas such as trade, infrastructure connectivity, digital innovation, and sustainable development. During the visit, Minister Teo met Yuan Jiajun, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee. Both leaders reaffirmed their mutual commitment to strengthening the roles of Singapore and Chongqing as “twin hubs” driving regional connectivity between Southeast Asia and Western China.

One of the visit’s key highlights was the 10th CCI Joint Implementation Committee Meeting, co-chaired by Minister Teo and Chongqing Municipal People’s Government Mayor Hu Henghua. Discussions focused on the future direction of the CCI, with an emphasis on expanding collaboration in emerging sectors, underpinned by digitalisation and sustainability. Over 20 Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were signed during the meeting to formalise cooperation in the areas of green economy, training and talent development, and healthcare.

Minister Teo noted, “The CCI continues to be an important platform in positioning Singapore and Chongqing as twin hubs that drive deeper and broader region-to-region connectivity between Southeast Asia and Western China.”

A series of commemorative events has been planned to celebrate the milestone. In Singapore, the “China-Singapore (Chongqing) Connectivity Initiative – New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor Trade and Financial Conference” will be held on 11 June at Conrad Singapore Orchard. This will be followed by the “Chongqing Week in Singapore” and “China, an Opportunity: Chongqing Brands” from 10 to 13 June at Ngee Ann City, showcasing Chongqing’s cultural heritage.

In return, Singapore will be featured at the “Experience Singapore Week” in Chongqing from 30 September to 3 October 2025 at Guanyinqiao Business Circle, promoting Singapore as a cultural and tourism destination.
