
Over 220 industry participants gathered in Tokyo to learn about the strategic benefits of Malaysia’s Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone.
TOKYO, The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) Tokyo, in partnership with Mizuho Bank, hosted a hybrid seminar in Tokyo on 15 July 2025 to promote investment prospects within the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). The event attracted more than 220 participants from a range of industries.
The seminar featured a panel discussion with Mr Izran Abdullah, Director of MIDA Tokyo; Mr Rudyanto Azhar, Director of Economics & Investment at the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA); Mr Krishnamoorthy Kuppusamy, Head of Business Development & Value Creation at Iskandar Investment Berhad; and Mr Taketsu Yamanoi from Sankyu Inc. Panellists shared key insights on the strategic advantages of Johor under the JS-SEZ initiative, highlighting opportunities for Japanese businesses to expand and collaborate in the region.
Mr Shamsul Amir, Deputy Director of MIDA Tokyo, delivered a presentation outlining Malaysia’s strengths as a leading investment destination in Southeast Asia. The session was complemented by IRDA’s briefing on Johor’s emerging opportunities and its role in enhancing cross-border economic collaboration.
The seminar provided Japanese investors with a valuable platform to explore new opportunities in Malaysia, while fostering closer economic ties under the JS-SEZ framework.
