Mr Chan Chun Sing visits Tuas Naval Base to review training and operations enhancing maritime security in Singapore waters.
Minister for Defence, Mr Chan Chun Sing, visited the Maritime Security Task Force (MSTF) at Tuas Naval Base on the morning of 4 August. The visit aimed to review the Republic of Singapore Navy’s (RSN) operational readiness and the integration of advanced training technologies in maritime security.
During his visit, Mr Chan toured the RSS Daring and the Littoral Mission Vessel Simulation Centre (LMV SIMCEN), where he observed personnel undergoing simulation-based training. The use of realistic, technology-driven scenarios was highlighted as a crucial method for equipping sailors with the skills needed to manage a variety of complex maritime situations.
Mr Chan also sailed aboard RSS Indomitable, where he was briefed on RSN’s operations in the Singapore Strait—one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes. While onboard, he witnessed key shipboard operations including counter-threat drills, firefighting, damage control, and boat-launching procedures for boarding missions. He also interacted with crew members to gain insight into their day-to-day experiences and challenges.

Additionally, the Minister visited the Maritime Security and Response Vessel (MSRV) Protector. Here, he was briefed on the vessel’s non-lethal capabilities designed to address maritime incidents with precision and restraint, thereby offering more options for graduated responses.
Mr Chan was joined by Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Minister of State for Defence Mr Desmond Choo, Chief of Navy Rear Admiral Sean Wat, and other senior officers from the Singapore Armed Forces.
