High-level meeting explores Singapore’s Grand Prix best practices to support South Africa’s Formula 1 bid.
On 4 October 2025, a high-level South African delegation led by the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Mr Gayton McKenzie, engaged Singapore officials in a comprehensive briefing on the city-state’s globally acclaimed Formula 1 Grand Prix operations. The session took place at the Singapore Treasury Building and brought together representatives from the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Formula 1 Division of the Singapore Tourism Board.
Minister McKenzie was accompanied by Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Thandi Moraka, and South African High Commissioner to Singapore, Ms Charlotte Lobe. The discussions centred on Singapore’s successful race model—known for its efficient logistics, robust public-private collaboration, and its strong contribution to tourism and the economy.

Singapore’s experience provided the South African side with valuable insights into hosting a world-class motorsport event in an urban setting. The delegation examined strategies for infrastructure planning, stakeholder coordination, and event sustainability to inform South Africa’s ongoing efforts to bring Formula 1 back to the African continent.
This engagement represents an important step in South Africa’s commitment to developing a transparent and inclusive proposal that reflects the nation’s cultural vibrancy, infrastructure capacity, and sporting ambition. The initiative also reinforces South Africa’s vision to position itself as a leading hub for global sports and tourism on the continent.
