He noted that Singapore and Germany, both open and trade-driven economies, are well-positioned to work together in navigating global changes. Their shared commitment to cooperation, rules-based trade, and innovation continues to support growth and stability.

Mr. Gan highlighted that in 2024, both nations elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership, marking a new chapter in bilateral ties. Today, Germany is Singapore’s largest European Union trading partner in goods, with over 2,300 German companies operating in Singapore. These companies use Singapore as a gateway to Southeast Asia, one of the world’s fastest-growing regions.

Looking ahead, Mr. Gan outlined three key areas where collaboration can create positive impact:

  • Energy: Both countries are advancing clean energy solutions. Projects like the ASEAN Power Grid and joint efforts in hydrogen and ammonia fuel development offer strong potential for a sustainable future.
  • Trade: Strong agreements such as the EU–Singapore Free Trade Agreement continue to support business growth, while deeper links between Europe and Asia are opening new markets.
  • Technology: Cooperation in innovation, including artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing, is driving new opportunities and economic growth.
