Yanmar to expand power systems production with new factory in Fukuoka to meet rising data centre demand
Yanmar Energy System Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Yanmar Holdings Co., Ltd., announced plans to construct a new factory in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, to meet growing demand for emergency power generation systems, particularly for data centres. Construction will begin following a site agreement signed with the city on 7 April 2026, with operations scheduled to commence in 2028.
The new facility will serve as a core production base for Yanmar Energy System Manufacturing Co., Ltd., strengthening the group’s ability to supply large-capacity backup power systems. This expansion comes amid rising demand for business continuity solutions across sectors such as data centres, healthcare, and industrial facilities, where uninterrupted power supply is critical.
Yanmar previously introduced its GY175 Series emergency power generation systems in October 2025, designed for high-demand environments including data centres. The company plans to expand its lineup beyond the current 2,000 kVA-class models to include 3,000 kVA-class systems from fiscal 2026 and 4,000 kVA-class systems from fiscal 2028. These systems are also integrated into global offerings through its subsidiary HIMOINSA, supporting product standardisation and global supply capabilities.
The Kitakyushu factory will also play a strategic role in advancing future energy solutions, including equipment that supports carbon neutrality. Its location was selected for its strong manufacturing ecosystem, logistics connectivity by land, sea, and air, and proximity to existing Yanmar facilities in Fukuoka, Okayama, and Hyogo.
As digital transformation accelerates globally, the demand for reliable and scalable power infrastructure continues to grow. Yanmar’s investment reflects its long-term strategy to enhance production capacity, strengthen supply chains, and contribute to sustainable energy systems.
