Public agencies are stepping up energy-saving efforts, while businesses and households are encouraged to join a nationwide move towards a more sustainable and resilient future.
Singapore is strengthening its energy resilience through a nationwide conservation effort led by the public sector, with support measures in place to help households and businesses save energy.
In a joint statement released on 8 April, the National Environment Agency and the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment said all ministries, departments, organs of state and statutory boards have been directed to adopt practical energy-saving measures across government facilities.
The initiative follows a call by Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong on 2 April for everyone to play a part in strengthening Singapore’s energy resilience.
As part of the effort, government agencies are implementing practical steps such as setting air-conditioning temperatures at 25°C or higher under the Go 25 campaign, managing operating hours for lighting and lifts, and switching off non-essential equipment when not in use.
Agencies will also speed up the use of energy-efficient systems, including LED lighting and smart sensors, while replacing older equipment with more efficient alternatives.
Public officers are also encouraged to build good energy-saving habits in the workplace, such as turning off lights, monitors and air-conditioning when not needed.
These efforts support existing GreenGov.SG targets and reflect the Government’s commitment to lead by example in building a more sustainable Singapore.
The Government is also encouraging businesses, households and individuals to take five simple steps to save energy: use fans to stay cool, set air-conditioning at 25°C or higher, switch off appliances at the power socket, choose energy-efficient appliances, and opt for greener transport such as walking, cycling or public transport.
To support households, eligible families can claim up to S$400 in Climate Vouchers under the Climate Friendly Households Programme to buy energy-efficient appliances.
Businesses can also tap support schemes such as the Energy Efficiency Grant and the Resource Efficiency Grant for Emissions to improve efficiency and lower operating costs.
The Government said this whole-of-nation effort will help Singapore stay resilient in a changing global environment while building a cleaner and more sustainable future for all.
