Minister Grace Fu’s 10-day visit boosts cooperation in carbon credits and agri-food trade with Peru, Paraguay, and Chile.

Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, Ms Grace Fu, concluded her official visit to South America on 22 April 2026, reaffirming bilateral ties and advancing cooperation in sustainability and trade.

The 10-day trip, from 13 to 22 April, covered Peru, Paraguay, and Chile. Ms Fu led two Singapore business missions involving 19 companies to explore opportunities in carbon credits and agri-food trade. These missions were organised by Enterprise Singapore and the Singapore Food Agency.

Ms Fu said the missions strengthened Singapore’s role as a global partner in sustainability and trade. She highlighted that collaboration in carbon markets and food trade helps create business opportunities while supporting climate action and food security.

During her visit to Paraguay, Ms Fu met President Santiago Peña, where both sides reaffirmed strong bilateral relations. They also welcomed the MERCOSUR-Singapore Free Trade Agreement and discussed future cooperation, including carbon credit initiatives. This marked her second meeting with President Peña following his visit to Singapore in May 2025.

In Peru, Ms Fu met Foreign Affairs Minister Hugo de Zela and announced Singapore’s approval of processed poultry and pork imports from the country. She was joined by delegates from the Meat Traders’ Association in business discussions with exporters and trade groups from Peru, Paraguay, and Chile, highlighting shared goals to expand agri-food trade.

Ms Fu also hosted carbon market networking events across the three countries, bringing together Singapore companies, officials, and industry players. These sessions focused on climate policies, investment opportunities, and developing projects under Article 6 carbon credit mechanisms. She also visited a carbon credit project related to agricultural land management, gaining insights into its implementation and benefits for local communities.

In addition, Ms Fu met several senior officials, including Paraguay’s Environment Minister Rolando De Barros Barreto Acha and Foreign Affairs Minister Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, as well as Chile’s Environment Minister Francisca Toledo, Agriculture Minister Jamie Campos Quiroga, and Foreign Affairs Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation through trade agreements and sustainability initiatives.

The visit underscores Singapore’s commitment to building strong international partnerships and advancing economic and environmental goals through collaboration with South America.
