Dr Tan See Leng highlights new hub’s role in strengthening Singapore’s position as a trusted global trade centre and supporting business growth.
Singapore’s Minister-in-charge of Energy and Science & Technology in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Dr Tan See Leng, spoke at the launch of the PwC Trade Advisory Hub, highlighting its importance in supporting businesses amid growing global trade challenges.
The launch event, held in Singapore, was attended by key industry leaders including Mr Marcus Lam, Executive Chairman of PwC Singapore, and Ms Ho Weng Si from the Singapore Economic Development Board.
Dr Tan noted that the global trade environment is becoming more complex, with businesses facing increasing challenges in managing international regulations and risks. He said that beyond policy frameworks, companies now require expert guidance to navigate changes and identify growth opportunities.
He explained that the new hub will strengthen Singapore’s position as a trusted hub for global trade by providing reliable expertise and support for multinational corporations and local enterprises. The initiative also aligns with Singapore’s economic strategy to build trust-based services that help businesses operate confidently in uncertain conditions.
Dr Tan added that the hub will enable enterprises to expand beyond Singapore into Asia and global markets. He referenced a report by the World Economic Forum, which estimated that nearly US$10 trillion in global trade is facing rising compliance complexity. He warned that companies that fail to adapt may face delays, penalties, or exclusion from key markets.
The hub will offer specialised services such as trade compliance advisory, tariff analysis, and supply chain optimisation. These capabilities are expected to help businesses make better strategic decisions and unlock new growth opportunities.
Dr Tan also highlighted the hub’s role in creating high-quality jobs in Singapore. It will develop expertise in areas like supply chain advisory, international business operations, and trade compliance, helping to prepare Singapore’s workforce for future global roles.
He concluded by stating that the launch reflects strong collaboration between the government and private sector. The hub is expected to enhance Singapore’s role as a global gateway for trade and a centre for innovation, talent, and business solutions.
