India highlighted the need for stronger international cooperation, economic resilience and multilateral reform during the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi.

India welcomed foreign ministers and representatives attending the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting 2026 held in New Delhi under India’s BRICS chairship for 2026.

During the meeting, India underlined growing global uncertainty and the impact of ongoing geopolitical and economic challenges on emerging markets and developing countries.

The discussions focused on the need for stronger international responses to issues affecting energy, food, fertiliser and health security, as well as the importance of maintaining safe and unimpeded maritime trade routes for global economic stability.

India also stressed the importance of securing reliable supply chains and diversified markets to strengthen economic resilience in an increasingly uncertain global environment.

Climate change and sustainable development were key themes, with participants emphasising the need to address climate issues while respecting the principles of equity and common but differentiated responsibilities.

The meeting also highlighted the role of technology in promoting good governance and inclusive growth, while addressing concerns related to trust, transparency and equal access.

India further called for stronger dialogue and diplomacy to address international peace and security challenges, alongside enhanced cooperation against terrorism.

The country also reiterated support for reforms to the United Nations Security Council in both permanent and non-permanent categories as part of broader multilateral reforms.

India said its BRICS 2026 chairship aims to promote resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability while contributing towards a more stable, equitable and inclusive international order.
