The Astana AI Film Festival 2026 has opened global applications, inviting filmmakers, digital artists, and AI creators to showcase innovative AI-generated short films and compete for prizes worth USD 1 million.

Applications are now officially open for the Astana AI Film Festival (AAIFF) 2026, an international competition designed to celebrate the growing role of artificial intelligence in filmmaking and digital storytelling.

Organizers have invited filmmakers, digital artists, storytellers, innovators, and AI creators from around the world to submit their AI-generated short films and participate in what is being described as a new era of cinema powered by artificial intelligence.

The main competition theme for the 2026 edition is “The Future Worth Living In.” Participants are required to submit AI-generated short films with a maximum duration of 10 minutes. A key eligibility requirement is that artificial intelligence must serve as the core production method throughout the filmmaking process.

The festival offers a total prize fund of USD 1 million, making it one of the most significant international competitions dedicated to AI-driven creative content.

In addition to the Main Competition, the event will feature an Open Competition with awards recognizing excellence in directing, visual language, storytelling, concept development, and character creation.

The Astana AI Film Festival will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from September 28 to October 1, 2026, as part of the broader Astana AI Week. The event is expected to bring together filmmakers, technology companies, AI experts, investors, and creative professionals from across the globe.

Organizers say the festival aims to encourage innovation at the intersection of technology and creativity while providing a platform for showcasing the future of AI-powered cinema.

The submission deadline for entries is August 15, 2026. Interested participants can submit their applications through the festival’s official website.
