Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed a large gathering of the Indian diaspora at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium during his official visit to Australia on 9 July 2026, with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese joining the community event, highlighting the strength of India-Australia relations.

Prime Minister Modi thanked the Indian community for its warm welcome and described the diaspora as a living bridge between the two countries. He commended its contributions to Australia’s multicultural society while preserving India’s cultural heritage and strengthening people-to-people ties.

Highlighting the growing India-Australia partnership, Prime Minister Modi said the two countries are natural partners in economic growth, education, innovation, technology and regional stability. He noted the significant presence of Indian students in Australia and the growing number of Australian universities establishing campuses in India as examples of expanding bilateral cooperation.

Prime Minister Modi also highlighted India’s progress over the past decade, citing sustained economic growth, policy reforms, digital transformation, next-generation infrastructure and advances in manufacturing and emerging technologies. He said developments in semiconductors, smartphone manufacturing, defence production and innovation are creating new opportunities for global partnerships and investment.

He further highlighted India’s expanding digital public infrastructure, including DigiLocker and digital healthcare platforms, as examples of citizen-first governance that improve access to public services.

Looking ahead, Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that India-Australia cooperation would continue to expand across trade, education, science, technology, sports and innovation. He also encouraged the Indian diaspora to contribute ideas, expertise and innovation toward achieving Viksit Bharat 2047, India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by its centenary of independence.
