The two-day visit focused on engagements with Western Australian leaders, climate cooperation, strategic dialogue, and the Singaporean community in Perth
Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan undertook a working visit to Perth, Australia, from 28 to 29 July 2026. The visit included meetings with senior leaders from Western Australia, participation in a policy dialogue, and engagements with the Singaporean community, reflecting the close and longstanding partnership between Singapore and Australia.
The working visit formed part of Singapore’s continued engagement with Australia at both the federal and state levels. Accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Balakrishnan’s programme focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, exchanging views on regional and global developments, and reinforcing people-to-people ties.
During the visit, Dr Balakrishnan met Governor of Western Australia Chris Dawson and Premier of Western Australia Roger Cook. The discussions underscored the importance of maintaining close cooperation between Singapore and Western Australia across areas of mutual interest, including economic collaboration, regional engagement, and institutional partnerships.
Dr Balakrishnan also met Federal Member for Fremantle and Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy, as well as Assistant Minister for Emergency Management, Josh Wilson. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on climate action, energy transition, and emergency management, highlighting areas where Singapore and Australia continue to strengthen practical cooperation.
As part of the programme, Dr Balakrishnan participated in a roundtable discussion at the Perth USAsia Centre. The session brought together participants to discuss regional strategic issues and developments in the Indo-Pacific, reaffirming the importance of dialogue and cooperation in addressing shared challenges and opportunities.
In addition, Dr Balakrishnan engaged members of the Overseas Singaporean community in Perth during a reception hosted by the Singapore High Commission in Canberra. The engagement recognised the contributions of Singaporeans living abroad while reinforcing the Government’s commitment to maintaining strong connections with its overseas community.
The working visit reflected the enduring and multifaceted partnership between Singapore and Australia, as well as the shared commitment of both countries to deepen cooperation at national and regional levels. Such engagements continue to support collaboration across diplomacy, economic development, sustainability, and regional security.
The visit concluded on 29 July 2026, with both sides expected to continue advancing bilateral initiatives and fostering closer cooperation through regular high-level exchanges and institutional partnerships.
