The Philippine Embassy in Singapore welcomed the country’s participants in the ASEAN Law and Policy Academy (ALPA) 2026 during a courtesy call led by Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig. The meeting underscored the importance of legal cooperation, policy dialogue and regional integration as the Philippines advances its 2026 ASEAN Chairship.
Philippine Ambassador to Singapore H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig welcomed the Philippine participants of the ASEAN Law and Policy Academy (ALPA) 2026 during a courtesy call at the Philippine Embassy in Singapore on 30 July 2026. The delegation comprised officials, legal practitioners, academics and policy professionals representing various Philippine government agencies and academic institutions, reflecting the country’s strong commitment to strengthening legal expertise and regional collaboration.
Organised by the Centre for International Law (CIL) of the National University of Singapore (NUS), ALPA 2026 was held from 27 to 31 July 2026 at the NUS Kent Ridge Campus. The annual programme brought together legal and policy experts from across ASEAN to examine key regional issues, including ASEAN legal frameworks, dispute settlement mechanisms, economic integration, the digital economy, investment, and environmental cooperation.
During the courtesy call, Ambassador Macaraig shared his perspectives on current developments affecting both the Philippines and the wider ASEAN region. He also highlighted the progress of the Philippines’ 2026 ASEAN Chairship, emphasising the country’s commitment to advancing regional resilience, inclusive governance and stronger institutional cooperation among ASEAN Member States.
The Ambassador noted that initiatives such as the ASEAN Law and Policy Academy play an important role in equipping legal and policy professionals with a deeper understanding of ASEAN’s evolving institutional and regulatory landscape. He encouraged participants to continue fostering professional networks and knowledge exchange that contribute to effective policymaking and regional collaboration.
The Philippine Embassy commended the delegates for their dedication to enhancing their expertise through ALPA 2026 and expressed confidence that the experience would strengthen the Philippines’ contribution to ASEAN’s legal, policy and governance agenda.
