Lithuania’s Ambassador Darius Gaidys was honoured at a diplomatic farewell reception following four years of service in Singapore and the wider ASEAN region
Lithuania’s Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Darius Gaidys, concluded his four-year diplomatic assignment in Singapore with a farewell reception held at Shangri-La Singapore on 12 August 2026. Hosted by the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador Agustín García-López Loaeza, the reception brought together members of Singapore’s diplomatic community to mark the Ambassador’s departure and recognise his contribution to Lithuania’s engagement with Singapore and Southeast Asia.
Ambassador Gaidys arrived in Singapore in July 2022 to establish Lithuania’s new embassy as part of the country’s Indo-Pacific strategy. He formally presented his credentials in September 2022, and the Embassy of Lithuania was officially inaugurated in October 2023.
In his farewell remarks, Ambassador Gaidys reflected on his four years in Singapore and highlighted Lithuania’s growing engagement with Singapore and ASEAN through political, economic, technological and institutional cooperation.
He noted Lithuania’s expertise in LNG infrastructure and power-grid development, including its successful transition from the Russian-led electricity grid to the European grid. He also highlighted opportunities to share experience in support of the ASEAN Power Grid.
Technology and innovation remained key areas of engagement, including fintech, cybersecurity, life sciences, digital solutions, advanced manufacturing and innovation. During his tenure, Lithuania also expanded its diplomatic outreach across ASEAN and acceded to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia on 24 July 2026.
Ambassador Gaidys expressed appreciation to his embassy team, diplomatic colleagues and his spouse, Renata Gaidiene, for their support throughout his posting. The Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador Agustín García-López Loaeza, also recognised his contribution to strengthening Lithuania’s ties with Singapore and the wider region.
As Ambassador Gaidys returns to Lithuania, he expressed hope of maintaining close ties with Southeast Asian partners. Lithuania will also assume the presidency of the Council of the European Union in January 2027, while the next ASEF Board meeting is scheduled to take place in Lithuania in June 2027.
