Inaugural Singapore-Vietnam Strategic Dialogue brings senior leaders together to advance cooperation in leadership, innovation, technology and human capital.
Singapore hosted the inaugural Singapore-Vietnam Strategic Dialogue (SVSD), bringing together senior leaders from both countries to discuss ways to deepen bilateral cooperation and strengthen leadership exchanges between Singapore and Vietnam.
The dialogue was co-chaired by Coordinating Minister for Public Services Chan Chun Sing and Permanent Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Secretariat Tran Cam Tu, with both sides represented by ministers and senior party leaders from a range of sectors.
The SVSD marked a new platform for Singapore and Vietnam to exchange views on shared priorities and explore opportunities for closer cooperation. Discussions covered leadership development, technological innovation and navigating an increasingly complex global environment.
The broad representation from both sides included senior officials responsible for foreign affairs, defence, digital development, education, sustainability, and science and technology, reflecting the scope of the bilateral relationship.
Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan described the inaugural dialogue as “a new chapter in our close and growing partnership with Vietnam.”
He said the participation of ministers and senior party leaders across multiple sectors reflected “the breadth of our ties and our shared commitment to deepen cooperation.”
Human capital development and leadership exchanges featured prominently in the dialogue, with both sides recognising the importance of developing future generations of leaders.“For both Singapore and Vietnam, our people are our most precious resource,” Minister Balakrishnan said, highlighting more than three decades of cooperation in human capital development and leadership exchanges.
The two countries also renewed the Agreement on Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Study Visits, reaffirming Singapore’s support for Vietnam’s leadership development.
The renewal will enable both sides to continue exchanging experiences and learning from one another, while strengthening links between the next generation of Singaporean and Vietnamese leaders.
The dialogue also provided an opportunity for both countries to exchange perspectives on technological innovation and emerging areas of cooperation, including digital development and science and technology.
The participation of senior representatives from defence, sustainability, education and other sectors reflected the increasingly broad-based nature of Singapore-Vietnam cooperation.
The inaugural Singapore-Vietnam Strategic Dialogue (SVSD) established a platform for continued strategic exchanges between the two countries, with Singapore and Vietnam expected to build on the discussions and strengthen cooperation across areas of mutual interest in the years ahead.
