Philippine Embassy in Singapore shared entrepreneurship book with former OFWs in Philippines
Philippine Ambassador to Singapore H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig presented DMW-NRCO Director Ms. Andrea Luisa C. Anolin with a copy of Making a Mark on the Little Red Dot: Trailblazing Filipino Entrepreneurs in Singapore during a courtesy visit to the Philippine Embassy in Singapore. The book, which features the experiences of 25 Filipino entrepreneurs in Singapore, was subsequently shared with former overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who have established a business in the Philippines.
Ms. Anolin was accompanied during the courtesy visit by Ms. Maria Kristine Monares, Labor and Employment Officer III. During the interaction, Ambassador Macaraig gifted Ms. Anolin the book, which documents the experiences of Filipino entrepreneurs who built and developed businesses in Singapore.
The publication features 25 stories highlighting the entrepreneurs’ experiences, including their passion, resilience, hard work and entrepreneurial spirit. The stories cover different areas of entrepreneurship, including culinary businesses, and examine how Filipino OFWs have pursued business opportunities while living and working in Singapore.
Following the courtesy visit, Ms. Anolin decided to pass the book to Rue Ribon and Elaine Figueroa, former OFWs from Singapore and co-owners of The Maker and Made, a restaurant in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Philippines. The restaurant is featured in the book under the section on Culinary Entrepreneurs.
Ribon and Figueroa are also recipients of the first 2025 Bagong Bayani Award for Successful Reintegration. Their inclusion in the book documents their transition from working as OFWs in Singapore to establishing an entrepreneurial venture in the Philippines.
The handover provided an opportunity to share the publication with former OFWs whose own experience is featured in its pages. Ribon and Figueroa expressed their appreciation for being included among Filipino entrepreneurs whose stories are presented in the collection.
The Philippine Embassy in Singapore invited the public to read the book through its e-book edition, available online at phinsg.com/eBook. The publication provides access to the stories of Filipino entrepreneurs in Singapore and their entrepreneurial experiences in both Singapore and the Philippines.
