African-inspired art exhibition highlighted cultural connections between South Africa, Singapore and China through creativity.
The South African High Commission in Singapore attended the opening of “Light Awakens Harmony”, an African-inspired art exhibition by Chinese artist Ms. Jane Fong, on 22 September 2026. Held in Singapore as part of South Africa Focus Week, the exhibition explored Africa’s beauty, spirit and diversity through Fong’s artistic expression, providing a platform for cultural exchange between South Africa, Singapore and China.
The exhibition featured works by Ms. Fong, whose artistic practice reflected her longstanding interest in Africa. The event was attended by representatives of the South African High Commission, including High Commissioner H.E. Madiepetsane Charlotte Lobe and Deputy Minister Thandi Moraka.
In her welcoming remarks, High Commissioner Lobe highlighted Ms. Fong’s longstanding passion for Africa and her contribution to cultural understanding between South Africa, Singapore and China through art. She noted the role of artistic expression in creating connections between different cultures and peoples.
Deputy Minister Moraka delivered the keynote address at the opening. She spoke about the role of creativity and cultural diplomacy in connecting nations and described the exhibition as a testament to the enduring connections between people from different continents.
The exhibition presented African-inspired works through light, colour and storytelling, reflecting Fong’s interpretation of Africa and its diverse cultural expressions.
